Program Goals:
- To develop a core of individuals who understand the need to collaborate across borders to address environmental issues;
- To encourage these young leaders to take a social entrepreneurial approach to develop and implement action plans that engage broader audiences in their home countries;
- To enhance knowledge of advocacy and communication strategies that educate and engage policy leaders and the general public
Who Is Involved?
Seventy-two young leaders between the ages of 18 to 25, representing each of the 10 ASEAN members, selected by the U.S. Embassies in their respective nations. The participants will be divided into 12 multi-national teams that will be led by two Leader Mentors – one each from ASEAN and the United States.
The 24 Southeast Asian and American Leader Mentors, will play the dual role of workshop facilitators and participant mentors, as they guide the teams in:
- Identifying ways in which environmental trends affect human economic development;
- Exploring roles played by governments, NGOs, private sector companies, and by the public; and
- Developing action plans that build broad support for implementation of environmental solutions
