Pedestrian Pop-Up at Open StreetsCo-Planner and Paint-Master
One crosswalk transformed. Three Open Streets events. Hundreds of conversations about safer walking. We took to the streets to engage Open Streets attendees on pedestrian issues. The new DezignLine PedRail system demo created a pedestrian median and bump out, and corn starch paint slowed down visitors to stay and talk about high-visibility crossings. |
Pedestrian Work GroupI helped craft the priorities for the new Pedestrian Work Group and implemented an enhanced crosswalk pop-up at Open Streets. I was the first volunteer lead of the group’s Winter Maintenance advocacy, which the next year was launched as a focus issue for Our Streets' public engagement.
Check out these blogs I've written about early group meetings, drafting 2017 priorities, and about the Open Streets pop-ups. |
University Avenue for EveryoneIn 2016, I led social media outreach for the University Avenue for Everyone campaign that worked to build support in the community for a new bikeway.
We built a cross-platform social media presence to connect with students and community members about the University Avenue Protected Bikeway. University Avenue is a main thoroughfare and has the highest volume of bike traffic in the state, with an unprotected bikeway on a one-way street as the only infrastructure to keep people safe. Many University students hesitate to use biking as their go-to transit strategy because they simply feel they aren’t savvy or brave enough to go up against such a high volume of vehicles. This mindset, that urban cycling is only for the hip or gritty few, keeps people who could benefit from the cost savings and health benefits of biking from making the switch. Check out this blog I wrote about the project and our social media presence developed during the campaign. |
