Advocating for more housing affordability through abolishing exclusionary zoning
As a volunteer on the Events Committee, I am collaborating on creating an inclusive space for people of Minneapolis to make their voices heard during a housing shortage. Neighbors for more neighbors began as an online community of people interested in nitty-gritty policy details, but through volunteer led organizing turned out almost 100 people to speak at City Hall on behalf of a ground-breaking comprehensive plan. Our mission centers on breaking down exclusionary zoning that contributes to the ongoing segregation of our city.
As a new organization, events are critical for building community and identity. But we also have work to do to ensure we use our voice to direct resources to other housing advocacy groups working on the front lines with those most impacted by the housing shortage. I am looking forward to advancing this work in years to come.
